Finally, after a long silence I am posting. These are the Debate notes I took yesterday at 27/3/09 Fri JG's competition. HCI won Nanyang. And there are no [commentaries]. Proposition 1: Nettie Choo
Definitions
politicians - elected officials.
immunity - absolute immunity from domestic charges
prosecution - charges against the politician

Everyone should have to face a fast trial to prevent any future crimes Emo trauma for victims[knowing that their attacker/assailiant etc. is still on the loose] Undermines Justice Should have no exceptions Immune to charges:
allows the person to challenge the jud. sys.
lets the person run rampant
Jus bcos u r a politician, doesnt mean you can undermine the rights of other people. Proposition 2: Seah Ee Wei [Best Speaker] Judges are most neutral, best judge
Law is decided by the people. Hurts justice Unfair:
Treated differently
If have betrayed trust, , then they deserve it
==> Should not represent us any more, figurehead tarnished ==> Not just themselves, they represent the entire country
Welare of society
Should be able to prosecute
Run rampant during free term
Can spread lies etc
Cannot be allowed to abandon their integrity
Protect society.

Abuse of immunity
Justice
Opp: Justice unnecessary
Not mutually exclusive to prop policy.
Wont know whether pol. is guilty or framed
Ballot only happens before elections [later rebutted that the prop is assuming that everything they do is based on the ballot box.]
Sacred duty,
Immunity should not take over.
Justice is all about treating everyboly equally [that's correct]
other politicians will not really target politicians because of their policies
Govt clears name = better
Look out for the Opposition speeches by Lee Kah How, Ng Li Ki [Our President], and Darion Hotan and also Reply speeches by both Prop and Opp!
